The Call
The Christian life is a life that revolves around “a call or calling.” God from the beginning initiated a call to man right from the time man fell in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:9 says “And the Lord called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou?” Therefore, we are called to Salvation through Christ (Matthew 4:17 and 2 Timothy 1:9); Called to learn of Christ (Matthew 11:29 and Mark 3:13-14a); Called to be sent forth to serve (Mark 3:14b, 1 Corinthians 12:7, and Ephesians 4:11). The “call” wherewith we were called by God is a revered call, and God expects us as recipients to live our lives worthy of the call. The question that comes almost immediately is this: How do we live worthy of the call?
Requirements for the Calling
Apostle Paul, in his Epistle to the Ephesians, chapter 4 verses 1-6, outlines some requirements expected of anyone who desires to live a life worthy of his/her call. He tells us that we must be completely humble (v.2); we must be patient (v.2); We must maintain the unity of Spirit through the bond of peace (v.3). We must maintain Unity in diversity holding unto the following unchanging truths; there is One God and Father of All, One Lord (Jesus Christ), One Spirit (Holy Spirit), One faith, One baptism, One Body, and One hope (v.4-6).
We must share the Gospel (Good News) to all; in season and out of season. New life is for all (Sabo rai don kowa).
If we have to live a life worthy of our calling, we must be focused on the requirements mentioned above. We must strive to be humble, patient, maintain unity, share the Gospel and be intentional about applying them in our lives and ministry.
The requirements are a “must-do-thing” for us, as children of God looking forward to a home in eternity and a reward. May God help us to live lives worthy of the call we have received.
