‘The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer’ (v2) 2 Samuel 22:2–7

One thing we know is that ultimately we shall see God face to face. Whatever life serves up to us, nothing can separate us from God (Rom. 8:38–39). The process we must travel through may prove testing, yet every step of the way God’s hand holds us. We may need to find courage and confidence in equal measure, but God is our strong deliverer (Psa. 140:7).

The verse today is taken from David’s paean of praise at the way God delivered him from both his enemies and his own deliberate disobedience. The testimony of so many characters whose lives are recorded in Scripture gives us hope and builds our own faith. One further reason why we turn to God’s Word to strengthen and deepen our walk with God.

Life unfolds day by day, and none of us knows what each fresh day will reveal, what demands it will make upon us. Our own life, and the lives of those we love, cannot predict where the future will carry us.

We know God is faithful, yet our personal adventure demands courage when we meet a challenge for which we feel totally unprepared. At such a moment, our confidence in God is tested. Are we able to entrust our present into God’s care? Jesus promises to be with us to the very end of the age (Matt. 28:20). How real and effective is God’s presence to me, today?
