Psalm 124:1–8 ‘We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.’ (vv7–8)
We often reflect on previous chapters in our life. This can prove helpful, reminding us of God’s reality in various ways. With hindsight, we can see how God has crafted, then set, the building blocks making us who we are today.
Such reflection may mean we cringe at times, recalling a dumb decision or a perspective we’d sooner forget. This demonstrates life is a journey on which we never stop learning. If wise, we become more of who God created us to become.
When working with retirees and attempting to empower them to see retirement as more than a long rest, the weight of research reveals the scale of the challenge. Many people have given little thought about how to use the time they now have.
With hindsight, we can see how God has crafted, then set, the building blocks making us who we are today.
Beyond the initial excitement at leaving work there lies a possible landscape of 30 plus years. Happily, God implanted in our hearts a capacity to contribute to every year that passes. Central to this is our desire and conviction around deepening our walk with God.
Life in all its ups and downs will have shaped our view of God. As we age, will we continue to nurture and develop it?
We carry many questions from observation and experience, which either deepen or can destroy our love for and dependence on God. Best to focus on God and determine to live conscious of how we might best continue to serve Him.

We never fail to be an expression of God’s grace. In your circumstances, how would you choose to express God’s love?
