Genesis 46:1–7 ‘And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.’ (v4)
God knows our weaknesses and knows just when we need encouragement or ministry to the soul. Sometimes that help comes from scripture we have memorised, sometimes it comes from a friend who is sent by the Lord, sometimes God Himself will speak into our hearts.
God knew Jacob was afraid. It was a massive journey of around 150 miles. Doubts and fears had crept in… Would he make it? Was Joseph really alive? The Lord encouraged Jacob, telling him that a great nation would be made in Egypt and that his precious son Joseph would be with him when he died.
Reassured, Jacob was able to continue on the epic journey. What a faithful God we have. He is one who, while God of the universe, cares about the detail of our lives, knows us intimately and can meet our needs. It is through our weaknesses that our faith grows.
If we did not have weakness we would not have to trust God. He would not get the glory and our faith would not be stretched. It seems that even our weakness can be used for good in our lives and for God’s glory.
A Prayer To Make:
‘Thank You, Lord, that You encourage me when I am full of doubt.
Thank You that You understand my weakness, and help me trust You more of the time. Amen.’
An Action To Take:
Reflect on a time when God has reassured you or met you in your weakness.
Consider encouraging someone else as you have been encouraged.
