Laos 31 March 2020
From a local Christian ministry supported by Barnabas Fund
Laos had eight confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of 28 March and the country went into lockdown on 30 March. All international checkpoints are closed to stop passengers from exiting and entering Laos and everyone must stay at home except for essential purposes. Events involving more than ten people meeting together are banned. These measures are currently in place until 19 April.
Our project partner wrote to report on a self-sufficiency project funded by Barnabas. The arrival of coronavirus makes this project even more valuable.
“We have tried different style of coops and managed to import great quality Thailand chickens and feed before the border was closed. So now we are able to help many rural believers with a good source of protein to supplement their rice diet.
“So very pleased the new Laos chicken egg project is up and going. It’s fantastic and well timed. Every day Ms D now goes and collects between 15-17 eggs from 20 chickens, so rural poor villagers can have protein along with their rice which is especially important now villages are locked down due to Covid-19. God be praised.”
