Alexander Puasa and his Daughter (2002) - Kidnapped and Killed

I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God. Job 19:25-26

Alexander, 46, was killed along with his 15-year-old daughter in Jakarta, Indonesia, during a period of serious violence in the country. Both father and daughter disappeared in March 2002, most likely kidnapped by Islamic extremists. Their bodies were recovered several days after they were taken. One reason put forward for their deaths was that extremists wanted to derail the peace negotiations between Muslims and Christians that sought to end the communal violence.

Our life is seed, sown in the earth to rise again in the world to come,
Where we will be renewed by Christ in immortal life.
I did not frame this body, nor will I destroy it;
God you gave me life, you will also restore it.

Jonas of Beth-Iasa (martyred c. 327)
