Eight Christians who were abducted by bandits from their church minibus on 26 March have now been released.

The news was confirmed by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, on 8 April.

Adeboye said that the released captives had been taken to a hospital
for examination, adding, “Glory be to Jesus. We pray for lasting peace
in all troubled regions of the country in Jesus name.”

The church minibus – displaying on its side the name “Redeemed Christian Church of God” – was held up on the way from Kaduna city to Kafanchan.

The Christians, all adults, were travelling to Kafanchan, on an evangelistic mission.

The northern part of Kaduna State is mainly Muslim and the south is
mainly Christian, and the state lies in Nigeria’s Middle Belt where at least 240 Christians have been killed in Islamic attacks since the beginning of July 2020.

On 6 April one Christian was killed, four others injured, and a further four abducted by bandits in another attack on a church bus on the same stretch of road.
