‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ (v3) Jeremiah 33:1–3
Revival has drawn me for many years. I first met its reality when I had decided to follow Jesus. God intervened. At University, I one day found myself in church responding to an invitation to receive Christ. I was certainly interested in all I’d heard, but not entirely convinced.
However, I liked the down-to-earth preacher, Cuthbert Bardsley, then Bishop of Coventry. Chatting after the service, something rang true as he handed us all a Gospel. Having liked Cuthbert, I reluctantly followed his advice and on a brisk October morning, and as I read this Gospel I knew that I had found God and God had found me.
It was an experience I have never been able to deny or renounce, even when life circumstances have driven me to that point in pain-filled with desperation. As we noted last week: Jesus is in God’s Word, the Bible. There I met Him, and I was brought from death to life, the very meaning of revival.
